How do you use an outboard choke?
Five Steps to Starting an Older 2-Stroke Outboard Engine:
Squeeze primer bulb till firm. Advance throttle in neutral to 2/3s. Turn key on, push to choke (or pull out choke) and crank at the same time. Release choke, return the throttle to neutral after ignition.
Should choke be open or closed when starting?
The choke is only used when starting a cold engine. When doing a cold start, the choke should be closed to limit the amount of air going in. Once the car has warmed up, if the choke does not open fully, the restriction in air may result in reduced power.
How do you start a choke on a boat motor?
You may find a choke switch or the choke may operate by pushing the key in which activates an automatic choke. Hold the key in or use the choke switch and turn to the start position. Release the key or turn off choke switch as soon as the engine starts. Gradually move the warm-up lever to the run position.
How does push to choke work?
By restricting the flow of air into the throat of the carburetor, the choke valve reduces the pressure inside the throat, which causes a proportionally greater amount of fuel to be pushed from the main jet into the combustion chamber during cold-running operation.
Do you choke a flooded engine?
When nothing happens, you turn on the choke and continue pulling until you detect the familiar smell of gasoline, which means the engine is flooded. The conventional remedy for a flooded engine is to let it set for 15 minutes or so to give the carburetor time to dry.
What happens if choke is left on?
Leaving the choke on for too long will cause unnecessary engine wear and waste fuel. This is also bad for the environment. The choke is mainly used during winter to help with starting. The engine needs its fuel to be vaporised in order to burn it.
What is the choke on position?
Choke on means that the choke plate is covering the carb throat. The “choke” is off when the choke lever is down or when the choke lever is facing you if your choke is a handle bar mount. Choke off means that the choke plate is not covering the carb throat.
Should the choke be pushed in or out?
The lever type choke should be in the down position during normal operation. To use the choke to start a cold engine, lift up on the lever to turn the choke on. Once the engine has warmed up, return the lever to the down position.
How long should I leave the choke on?
After 30 seconds is usually enough for most bikes. Especially a small thumper. Just reduce the choke slowly. If it wont idle smoothly (sounds like an asthmatic pensioner) then it probably wants the choke on a bit longer.
How do you know if your outboard is flooded?
What Are The Symptoms Of A Flooded Boat Engine? You can tell if your boat’s engine flooded when you spot these signs: A strong smell of gasoline coming out (especially around the exhaust), wet spark plugs, and if the boat doesn’t restart for the second time or won’t start at all.
